My name is Howard Hendrickson, and I am an ordained, agnostic minister under the Universal Life Church.

To many it may seem odd, (and to some a heresy), that I would become ordained, as an agnostic, or that any church would ordain me. But, that is not important. What is important is that there is a church that truly believes in freedom of religion, and freedom of faith.

The Universal Life Church was founded by Kirby Hensley to combat the corrupting power of church hierarchies. Other churches require their prospective ministers to acknowledge and accept the dogma of that church before they will grant ordination, and they will, to a greater or lesser degree, punish members who challenge that dogma. Ordination within the ULC is automatic, without restriction, and for life.

As an agnostic I believe that true knowledge of God is probably not possible. And I tend towards a belief that God does not exist - at least in any form that man has ever envisioned a God - but, I tend to believe that, if there is a God that takes an interest in the affairs of man, the ULC is that God's church.

As an ordained minister with ULC I am currently serving two functions. I have performed weddings, and will consider future weddings if asked. My primary function, for the moment, is providing letters of sponsorship for out of state ministers, as Wisconsin marriage statutes require.
